Overview
Kolpa works with communities from all tundras of Nepal from Dolpa in the upper regions which borders Tibet, making textiles from Yak, goat and sheep wool to the more temperate middle regions where nettle is used for weaving to the semi tropical southern regions where matting and baskets are made. One tribe stands out which Kolpa has worked with over the years and formed a close bond with is the Raute. They are the last nomadic tribe in Nepal which make carved travelling wooden chests and bowls. Being Nomadic they circulate the growth of the trees they cut, only cutting those which are able to grow back, therefore not disturbing their ecosystem and respecting the forests.
